A Word About Life and Things

A Friend

We all have friends. We have friends in grade school. We have friends in high school. We have friends at work. Sometimes we have life long friends: friends from grade school,  we still associate. Sometimes We have the same friends all of our lives. When we get married we sometime start to lose those friends. We don’t like giving up some of our friends. But with time we start to lose more and more friends. We need the fellowship that our friends give us. We like to hang out, go hunting, or boating, or mountain climbing. We just like to have fun with our friends.

A lot of people do not think of God as a friend. We picture God as someone waiting for us to do something wrong, so that He can chastise us. God is not like some of our teachers who will swat us with a ruler. Our God has a jolly good nature. He has a generous and good nature. He loves us more that we can imagine. He wants to see us succeed in everything we do. He loves to give us good gifts. He has already given us the gifts and talents that we have. We can do our jobs, because He gave us the ability to do the jobs that we have.

In fact God wants a relationship with each and everyone of us. He wants to be our friend. Jesus said in John “I no longer call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.” God spoke to Moses face to face. Abraham was called the friend of God.

God speaks to us through the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is with us every day. He leads us where we should go. He keeps us from danger. He speaks to us with a still small voice. God wants to have a conversion with us on a park bench. He wants to know what our problems are. He wants to discuss all of our problems. More than anything else He wants a relationship with us. He is concerned with the things we go through. We do not come to God with a list of what we want. God is not Santa Claus. He is a friend and wants a relationship, to sit and talk about our life and the life of our family. He just wants to be our friend in everything in our lives.
