A Word About Life and Things

A Higher Law

Most people try to obey the laws of the land. There is one Law that most people do not obey, and that is the speed limit. Most of us find it hard to stay under the speed limit. The laws of the land are for our benefit, and most of them come from God’s laws that He has given to us. God’s laws are a lot higher than the laws of man. Moses said to not murder, but Jesus said if you call someone a fool, you have murdered them already. Moses said you shall not commit adultery, but Jesus said If you look at a woman with impure thoughts, you’ve already done it. Jesus did not do away with the law, He fulfilled the law. We are living under a higher law.

Our words are who we are. Our words are not free. They have the power of life or death. Our words have a cost attached to them. They can build up those around us, or they can destroy those around us. Our words can hurt people or heal people. When we tease, or take jabs at people, our bad words can last for ever. When we hurt people, we say “just joking,” as if that makes everything all right. Our words can also heal people. Our words are the most powerful thing we have. We can use them to help people, or we can destroy people.

There was a man and his wife who were sitting at a table in a restaurant, waiting for their food. There was a white haired msn going from table to table greeting people. The man noticed the man, and said to his wife “I hope that man does not come to our table.” The man did come to the man’s table and asked the man what he did for a living. The man said that he taught at a seminary. The man pulled up a chair and sat down, and started to tell them a story. He told them of a boy who had been born to an unwed mother. He did not know who his father was.  In school he was teased by all of the other boys. Where ever he went he was asked who his father was. There was a new minister at church. The boy always sat at the back of the church, so he could be the first out, and not get teased. The new pastor got to exit before anyone else. He was greeting the people as they left the church. The boy started past the pastor, but the pastor laid a hand on the boy’s shoulder. Then he asked the boy who his father was. The whole church became quite. Everyone wanted to know who his father was. The pastor felt that something was wrong, then he said “I know who your father is, you are a child of God.” The chains were broken in that boy’s life. The seminary teacher thanked the man for the story. As the white haired man got up to leave, he said “I was that boy.” The man and his wife asked the waitress “who was that man.” She said “he was the former Governor of Tennessee. His name was Ben Hooper he was the 31st Governor of Tennessee.”

We all live under a higher law. We will all stand before the judgement seat of Christ, and will give an account of our idle words. We are on this earth to be a blessing to everyone around us. We are not here to put people down, we are here to lift them up. We are not to judge anyone, There is only one person who can judge anyone, and that is our redeemer. We need to leave everything in His hands and not in our hands. We need to do what our Father asks us to do. We are here to do the will of the Father, and to be blessing to those that are in our lives. We are here to do our Father’s business, and not our own.
